It’s funny how your priorities shift once you realize what sacrifices need to be made. You heard me correctly! I sold all my J’s for the down payment on a house! I remember growing up I never had Jordan’s, always seen the girls in school having them. My mom was a single parent and Jordan’s were not an option nor a priority. But trust me, I wanted to be cool! I wanted what I couldn’t have. It’s normal for I was a kid. A girl trying to fit in. Fast forward to adult hood… My wife purchased me matching Jordan’s… I was so cool. Well at least I thought so, matching with my girl. Look at me, that was a indication of loyalty, togetherness.
It was a label of having “money.” In reality it really wasn’t a indication of anything! It should have been left in the classification of just pure fashion. But for some reason Jordan’s seem to find their way in other unfortunate categories such as a financial burden, death of youth, and a symbol of social acceptance! We have been lost in translation of what’s important.
I knew what had to be done. I was looking a certain way from a fashion standpoint more than the importance of having the ability of purchasing our first home! I Was being a social statistic, something I wanted for my wife and I. No! It’s like something hit me. “What was I willing to sacrifice for a greater accomplishment?” Facts! Getting rid of all my Jordan’s for a down payment was and still is the best decision I made. Now as I write this piece sitting in the middle of my very first home an hour after closing… I’m speechless!
I’m beyond grateful for the ability to understand a mind-shift and implementing with in that shift! It’s a very powerful place to be.
Remember people, it’s ok to sell all your j’s for a greater good! Sometime you have to redirect your focus and bask in the properties of life! In relationships with where others finances may not be a common conversation, make it one! After you build a foundation, you need to build wealth! What are you waiting for!?!?
