If you’re a Kroger shopper — or shop at any of the grocery conglomerate’s nearly two dozen other brands — you may be wondering, “How do Kroger fuel points work?”
Turns out the system is simple and can save dedicated shoppers a lot of money every time they fill up at the pump!
Understanding the Kroger Fuel Points Program
According to the company’s website, Kroger started selling gas across its supermarket brands in 1998. With nearly 1,500 gas stations today, there’s probably one near you.
But if you’ve never filled up at their pumps before, here’s what you need to know to save the most money!

1. What Is the Kroger Fuel Points Program?
The Kroger fuel points program is a customer loyalty program that gives you the chance to save anywhere from 10 cents off per gallon up to $1 off per gallon every time you get gas.
You must have a Shopper’s Card to earn points and participate. Registering for the card is free, and it also gives you access to in-store savings — in addition to the fuel savings at the pump we’ll be discussing today.
Once you’re signed up with your store’s loyalty program, there are a few ways you actually earn fuel points:
- 1 point for every $1 you spend — excluding alcohol and tobacco in most cases
- 2 times the fuel points on gift cards (periodically this may be as high as 4x based on promotions)
- 50 points on qualifying non-federally funded prescriptions
Other miscellaneous opportunities to earn points include making purchases through Kroger Ship and Fred Meyer Jewelers.
2. How Do I Keep Track of My Fuel Points?
Kroger and its affiliated stores make it easy to keep track of your fuel points in two ways:
3. How Do I Redeem Kroger Fuel Points?
Ready to redeem your fuel points? It all starts with scanning your Shopper’s Card at the pump at either a Kroger Fuel Center, an affiliated supermarket’s fuel center or a participating Shell gas station.
Once you do that, you have access to your points that you’ve accumulated through shopping.
Here’s how the fuel points system works:
- 100 points equals 10 cents off per gallon*
- 200 points equals 20 cents off per gallon
- 300 points equals 30 cents off per gallon
- And so on up to a $1 off per gallon max possible savings
* Participating Shell stations put a 100 fuel point limit on redemption during a single fill-up. So you can only get a max discount of 10 cents offer per gallon at their pumps.
You must have a minimum of 100 fuel points to get started redeeming. And you can either use your points all up in bulk at one time or over the course of several fill-ups.
Additionally, there is a 35-gallon maximum per fuel purchase.
Note: Fuel points earned in one month are good through the end of the next month. Pay special attention to when points expire so you don’t lose them!
