In addition to price, the report focused on the best value and quality found in 11 different automotive classes, including cars, SUVs and minivans.

Each model’s value was measured by real-time transaction prices and five-year cost of ownership data. The vehicles were given an overall score for quality based on the collective opinion of the automotive press, safety ratings and other factors.

Kia led the pack with four awards, followed by Toyota (three) and Honda (two). Let’s take a look at the complete list:

U.S. News Best Cars Executive Editor Jamie Page Deaton says fixating on price has its benefits, but it’s best to take a balanced view.

“Cars with low price tags aren’t always good values,” Deaton says. “A cheap car can have high ownership costs, making it more expensive in the long run. Plus, a lot of inexpensive cars don’t give you a great ownership experience; it’s not a good deal if it’s not a good car. Every Best Car for the Money winner is a pleasure to own and a good value overall.”

Before you make a decision, money expert Clark Howard says it’s very important for you to check the vehicle’s reliability, financing options and what it costs to insure it.
